Four of Florida's central counties, Lake, Osceola, Orange, and Polk, contain thousands of lakes, which in turn cover 7% of the total area of Florida. These lakes are known state-wide for being some of the cleanest and freshest lakes in the state, and as such they are often visited for recreational and relaxation purposes. The main lakes in the Butler Chain are Down, Wauseon Bay, Butler, Louise, Isleworth, Tibet-Butler, Chase, Blanche, Sheen, Pocket, and Fish. This chain of wonderful lakes was recently designated as being "Outstanding Florida Waters" by the State of Florida, a distinction first held by Butler Chain. The Butler Chain of lakes is located in Central Florida, north of Orlando. Butler Chain vacation homes are often situated just a few yards from the clean, fresh waters with cypress trees growing gracefully nearby. Though rainwater is now the main source for these lakes, they were formed by sinkholes which formed in the limestone underneath most of Florida. |
