Fontana Lake, located in western North Carolina, is a mountainous paradise. The lake is surrounded by pure wilderness, with the Great Smokey Mountain National Park on the north shore and the Nantahala National Forest to the south. Over 29 miles long, Fontana Lake is excellent for boating and water sports, including water skiing and knee-boarding. Popular fishing on the lake is for bass, walleye, and crappie. The creeks that flow into Fontana Lake are excellent for trout fishing. Other popular activities include hiking, horseback riding, sightseeing, hunting, and picnicking.
