Perhaps the most popular tourist destinations in Montana are Glacier National Park and Flathead Lake, both of which are located in the western portion of the state. Flathead Lake, located south of Glacier National Park and the city of Kalispell, is a clean, freshwater lake that is popular for its location near the mountains, great fishing opportunities, and Wild Horse Island, a state park located within Flathead Lake itself. Just east of Flathead Lake lies Swan Lake. Though off the beaten path, Swan Lake is easily accessible from 83 highway and is close enough to the other attractions (like Flathead Lake and Glacier National Park) that they can be accessed in less than a few hour’s drive.

| Sitting among tall, forested mountains, Swan Lake is more than a mile side and about ten miles long. People interested in recreational boating should definitely check out Swan Lake in the summer, as it has great weather, beautiful surroundings, and a relatively uncrowded atmosphere. The other main activity for visitors to Swan Lake is fishing, which is great for rainbow and cutthroat trout. Fly fishing is also a possibility, for those who want to give it a try. |
