| Norris Lake Information |
 | | With approximately 800 miles of shoreline, Norris Lake has plenty of shoreline for everyone. The surface area of the lake is greater than 34,000 acres and the watershed area for Norris Lake covers 2,912 square miles. The lake is formed by Norris Dam, a 265 feet high and 1,860 feet long dam that is located on the Clinch River. It helps generates electricity, control floods, and maintain depth on the Tennessee River. Other than producing electricity, Lake Norris is great for swimming, boating, fishing, and other water recreation activities. Fishing is great because of the clear deep water that produces excellent fish. For example, bass, walleye and rock fish are popular catches at the lake. One could also visit museums, take time to go on a scenic hiking trail, or soak the sun while catching trout or canoeing below the dam. Amenities available include campgrounds and marinas (boat and Jet Ski rentals). |

| Nestled between the Great Smoky Mountain and the Cumberland Mountains, Norris Lake has been a staple vacation locale in Tennessee since its formation in 1937. An original project of the Tennessee Valley Authority, Norris Lake was created by Norris Dam, an impressive feat of engineering that stands to this day. Surrounded by state parks and huge wildlife areas, Norris Lake is a great place for both hunting and fishing (rock fish, walleye, and bass are plentiful) when the season is right. Trek up some of the trails to find spectacular views of tree-covered bluffs. Or, if the mood strikes, rent a boat or Jetski and get out onto the water how you really want. Located north of Knoxville, you’ll be nearby to some of the greatest entertainment in the south. Check out our listings of Norris Lake vacation rentals to find the one right for you.
