 | | Lake Lure covers 720 acres in the Hickory Nut Gorge, a valley in the Blue Ride Mountains in Western North Carolina. Lake Lure has gained fame as the location of the 1980s hit "Dirty Dancing" and the 2006 HGTV Dream Home. Boat tours of the lake are given and include lunch cruises, dinner cruises, and evening champagne cruises. The tours can also be rented out for private groups. Lake Lure Marina offers boat rentals ranging from kayaks to pontoon boats. For these interesting in fishing, Lake Lure has plenty of rainbow trout, brown trout, catfish, and bluegill, among others. There is also a beach with water park style attractions and lifeguards. An admission fee is charged for entrance to the beach. There is a grassy picnic area near the beach which can be used for small picnics or large gatherings. Nearby attractions include a number of golf courses, river rafting, riding stables, bicycle tours, and the Biltmore Estate, the largest private home in the country. |
