 | | With over 550 miles of shoreline and an area greater than 30,000 acres, there are enough activities in Douglas Lake for everyone. It is no wonder that it attracts 2 million or more visitors per year. The average maximum depth is 140 feet. One reason for this is because it is fed by two rivers, the French Broad River and the Nolichucky River, both originating from the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. The lake has private properties, campgrounds, vacation properties, cabin rentals, fishing guides, lake dock builders, boat lifts and horse attractions. This allows for activities such as picnicking, camping, boating and fishing. From late July to October, birdwatchers come and observe waterfowl, shore birds and wading birds as they rest on the shoreline and shallow waters.
