With over 550 miles of shoreline and an area greater than 30,000 acres, there are enough activities in Douglas Lake for everyone. It is no wonder that it attracts 2 million or more visitors per year. The average maximum depth is 140 feet. One reason for this is because it is fed by two rivers, the French Broad River and the Nolichucky River, both originating from the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. The lake has private properties, campgrounds, vacation properties, cabin rentals, fishing guides, lake dock builders, boat lifts and horse attractions. This allows for activities such as picnicking, camping, boating and fishing. From late July to October, birdwatchers come and observe waterfowl, shore birds and wading birds as they rest on the shoreline and shallow waters. Douglas Lake is located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. Formed from the French Broad River and its tributaries of the Nolichucky and Pigeon Rivers, its 30,400 acres of water surface and 555 miles of shoreline attract more than 1.7 million recreation visits per year. Even with this number of visitors, the lake still offers many secluded coves and hollows to enjoy, never giving you that over-crowded feeling. The best thing about Douglas Lake's location is its close proximity to the action packed attractions of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, offering you two vacations in one!
