Canandaigua Lake, which means “the chosen place,â€쳌 is one of New York’s 11 Finger Lakes. The 15.5 mile long lake has excellent fishing for trout, bass, and yellow perch. If you feel like boating, there are public access sites to get you on the water, and if you feel like aquatic fun in a more controlled setting, there is Roseland Waterpark. There are a number of excellent hiking trails and the area is also known for its many wineries. There are a variety of ways to enjoy the beauty of Canandaigua Lake on your vacation. If you have your own watercraft, you can launch your boat at the Canandaigua Lake State Marine Park. You can also sit back and relax on a boat tour on the Canandaigua Lady. If you’re looking for recreation off the water, the Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park is an excellent choice. Located at the northern end of the lake, this 52 acre Victorian home and its surrounding gardens are open seven days a week from mid-May through October. There are guided tours of the home as well as a wine center. It’s also a great location for private parties and weddings. For those interested in shopping, there is a unique downtown with a Main Street lined with shops and eateries.
