Houghton Lake

Throughout the year you can find beginners and experts alike hitting up Houghton Lake's dozen golf courses. There are many package deals if you decide to take a long vacation, and getting some practice on the links is a great way to dry off from all that Houghton Lake fun you'll be having! During the winter months, Houghton Lake freezes over and allows ice skating at certain points. Additionally, snowmobiling, show shoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing make for great Houghton Lake winter activities. Unlike some Michigan lakes, Houghton Lake is truly a four-season locale, offering vacationers something unique every day of the year. For instance, in November, check out the Christmas Arts and Crafts Show or the Toxic Audio Performance, a "musical experience unlike any other". In January, Houghton Lake plays host to Tip Up Town, Michigan's largest winter festival with snowmobile races, games, rides, fishing contest, parades, fireworks, and other activities too numerous to mention. Bring the whole family!

Though there are literally hundreds of lakes located in beautiful Michigan, not all of them have the natural splendor and recreational opportunities that Houghton Lake vacation rentals have to offer. One of the more popular summer activities is "tubing" down the AuSable and Muskegon Rivers, which run smoothly through beautiful Michigan countryside. Additionally, canoeing this same water is becoming more popular, and makes for great exercise. If fishing is more up your alley, Houghton Lake spans 22,000 acres, making it Michigan's largest inland lake. This means that there are thousands of great fishing opportunities for Lake Trout, Perch, Crappie, Small and Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Brown and Rainbow Trout, Walleye and Bluegill! For the more adventurous, try some ice fishing during Houghton Lake's winter season and have an experience you and your family will never forget.
