We had guests over the night before the wedding and there was plenty of room for a group of 10 with the loft, patio and living area. We grilled and enjoyed the awesome mountain view from the patio. The cabin was very clean and included necessary items. It was about a 20 minute drive to downtown Gatlinburg, but closer to a park and ride trolley stop. We hope to return to Bearfoot Memories! The view was amazing although, the cabin was quite far from town and trolley stops. The websites for Elk Springs Resort all claim that their cabins are exceptionally clean, however this was not the case with this cabin. There was dust everywhere inside the cabin. The carpet throughout the cabin was dirty and had a glob of something in it in the loft. When we turned the jets on in one of the tubs, black stuff came shooting out-possibly mold.?? The clothes dryer took more than 3 hours to dry a load as reported by another renter. We had to replace lightbulbs outside so we could see the keypad to get in at night. Overall, the view was great, the location was a bit of an inconvenience, and the cabin was a bit of a let-down. It was equipped with everything we needed for our long weekend. I would suggest rechecking the mileage it was not 10 miles to the C-21 office, more like 8 something. We passed right by it & finally asked someone who helped us find the road. Overall, the cabin was very clean (aside from the cookware stored in the broiler) and pulled through with all the amenities promised. I do recall the hot tub being described as covered, however, it was on the open deck. The location was great. Not too far away from food and entertainment. The property management company was extremely nice and even called the second day of our stay to see if everything was going smoothly. Check in was easy as well. The only issue we had was when a man unexpectedly showed up to the cabin in an unmarked vehicle, followed by an unmarked van. It wasn't until I called the number listed for the property manager that I was told he was in fact the man that showed up with another man to give an estimate on painting the exterior of the cabin. Due to the fact that Bearfoot Memories is very secluded and we are from out of town, this was very scary and nerve-wracking. Other than that one incident, the cabin is well worth it! Stayed for 4 days in August, 2012 When we showed up the hot tub was filthy there was hair and foam and the water was murky. The porch and porch furniture was completely covered with bird droppings. we called three or four times to fix the problem and were told that 1st the person taking care of the property has been emailed. after no response and we called back we were told that he couldn't be gotten a hold of and a message was left. After no one showed for two days we called the next day and another message was left by elk springs to the caretaker. After no one showed again we turned off the tub and drained it and refilled it ourself. We also washed down the furniture and scrubbed it. We are not anal retentive people or have OCD we just don,t like to bath in other's slurry or dine on a table covered with bird feces. This was the 2nd time that we had stayed at Bearfoot Memories the first time was good 2nd time not a charm.. No one ever even called back after 4 complaints to see if the situation was fixed. For $1000+ dollars I could of stayed home and cleaned up my own stuff. If you want I will send pictures! Very courteous and helpful management staff. The cabin was well equipped and comfortable. Pool table, Blu-ray player, and top of the line AV equipment were great for entertaining kids and adults alike. The adults loved the hot tub and grilling under the stars. What a view! Close enough to everything, yet away from all the tourists. Only downside was that the main living area/kitchen and loft got way too hot during the day in Mid-summer. The thermostat read 79 deg. by 9AM each morning, and stayed @ 79 deg. until late afternoon. This problem could be helped by installing window coverings on the high windows. The AC simply can't compete with the morning/midday sun that pours in. All-in-all, great stay! We'd rent from Elk Springs again without question. The cabin was very clean and it has all of the ammenities that you have at home and more. The front deck gives you a great view of the mountains nearby and you only have a view of a couple cabins far off in the distance and are not in your line of sight. Pool table and card table give you hours of enjoyment and it is very well decorated. The drive up there can be a bit of a challenge, but driving anywhere in the area can be a challenge because of steep inclines and drop-offs just be prepared, our 4 cylinder made it up so its not like you need a truck or 4x4 (the view at the cabin is worth it). The only complaint that we have through our whole week of being there is that when the water is ran in the cabin you can hear a noise in the master bedroom that sound like a water heater or pump we were not sure but it can wake you up. My wife and I were woke up several times during the vacation because of this. Also when the air kicks off and on it can be kind of loud. The other problem we had which is no fault of Elk Springs is that while you are quite secluded and cant see and cabins near by there is a cabin close by maybe a hundred yards or so of thick forest between but they were having a party which was rather loud they woke us up about 3:00 in the morning on our last night there, but it died down soon after. If it wasnt for the noise I would give the cabin a perfect review, but I just cant. Property Manager Response: Response from Elk Springs Resort Cabin Rentals Hi Dan, thanks for the review! We loved how secluded and private it was but still close enough to everything we needed, it was perfect. It felt like home, we didn't want to leave. The view of the mountain was gorgeous, enjoyed from inside through the huge windows or outside on the peaceful deck. We loved the hot tub and the pool table too. The pics actually don't do it justice! The view is absolutely amazing and sitting in the hot tub at night under the stars was just one of the many highlights. The cabin is located about 7 miles from Gatlinburg nestled into the side of a hill. It's very private although there are cabins near by, but not overlooking the property. The cabin was absolutely spotless and is kitted out with everything you could possibly need. We plan on coming back here as soon as we have some time off. It's sort of the off-season for Gatlinburg, but the low-key feel was exactly what we needed. Gorgeous mountain views through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, the fireplace, hot tubbing in the snow... so perfect.We loved how our cabin was secluded and private without being remote. Bearfoot Memories is actually off the main Elk Springs Resort property, but it wasn't difficult to get to and was very convenient to Gatlinburg and all the restaurants, shops, and attractions in town.Some of the highlights of the week were the Aquarium of the Smokies, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and dinners at the Greenbriar and Calhoun's.This was our first time in Gatlinburg, and we're excited to come back; Elk Springs is where we'll stay, for sure. There were only 2 issues within the cabin I would suggest needs to be fix. The remote control in the main living room did not always work. The shower heads in the bathrooms should have different settings. It currently has only one setting that sprays out too far out (out the shower stall).The biggest complaint I would have is with the management company. It started the first day when we were not given proper instructions for disarming the alarm. The security company did call, so did the police and the owner of the property called because they could not reach the management company. Next, there should information either provided by management company or owner on what to do when it snows. As a Floridian, we were snowed in for 3 days and didn't know how to get down the driveway or mountain. We could not get a hold of anyone from the management company. We left several messages for them and as of today we still have never heard from them other than this email. We were disappointed in the their or your response! We had snow for two of our four days, which really added to the view of the mountains. The cabin is cozy and comfortable. And speaking of comfortable, the beds are extremely comfy. Best sleep we've had in a while! The only complaint I have is that the shower is a little cramped for my 6 foot, 190 pound frame, as well as the shower head itself being pretty unpleasant. It was midnight when we arrived the first night and since the property was not within the resort boundaries, security said it was out of their jurisdiction and could not help us. That issue should be looked into if Elk Springs continues using cabins outside their "resort boundary". Owner called and gave the correct code - rest of the stay was wonderful. Our security / maintenance person at our main site after hours doesnt cover the cabins you were staying in so he called that areas manager / owner who assisted you with your door very quickly. He's only 5-8 minutes from the cabin. So if you do stay at a similar cabin again in that area and if you call our main maintenance number we will dispatch you to that areas maintenance person. From the private drive, the spectacular view, the cabin layout all added to a wonderful stay. I was amazed on how clean the cabin was on the inside. We ran out of propane and it was replaced in 15 minutes. This cabin is absolutely perfect. The staff as always did a outstanding job. I would buy this cabin, if it was for sale.
