I was expecting to travel up some small windy unpaved road to a secluded cabin. Instead I made a left off the road down a short unpaved driveway to the cabin. The neighbors dog came down the hill to join us on the first night unexpectedly (Good thing we like dogs) Other than that we really enjoyed our stay. Property was well kept. Not much for hiking around property, and it was near a road that was a little noisy. It was very conveniently located and easy to get to, but is situated off a fairly busy road. The trees block the view of the road for the most part but if you want total privacy up in the mountains etc, it may be too close to the road for some. The stream in front was very small but nice to hear it gurgling while sitting on the front porch. There are lots of stairs in this particular cabin, inside and out. The hot tub was the best part. We asked if we could make our own and was told they would check. When we arrived low and behold the owner of the cabin built us a very nice fire pit with some realy cool picnic tables/ benches. We were expecting to be a little more into the mountains. It is very close to a highway and was worried about noise and was pleased it had no effect all we could here is the creek water splashing over the rocks with an occasional car passing by. It is very close to hiking, train rides, horse riding, and fishing among many other things. Bottom line it was very relaxing. The greatest enjoyment we had didn't cost a thing my 4 year old son, myself, and my dad mad aluminum foil boats and raced them in the creek for hours. Things to be aware of if you stay here lots of stairs so if your older in years it may be challenging, my parents and mother inlaw ( all in there 60s) had a little bit of trouble but adjusted and did fine. The piggly wiggly is over priced. Food lion in blueridge about ten miles away is best. Buy a fishing license for your stay I'm glad I did if you know what I mean. The exon in duck town sells them but beware the lady in there is Very Rude. One more thing watch your speed through the little towns there are several speed traps even saw signs warning us of them. They description said queen bedrooms, it was full size bed with very little walking space. The cabin was very close to road, not like what we have had in the past. Grill was in poor condition. Stayed for 2 days in January, 2012 We were excited to get away for the weekend, but disappointed with the Creekside Chalet. The photos and description makes you think you are getting a cabin in the woods by a creek, but sadly it was nearly in downtown Ducktown and right on a busy road. Had we known this, we would have booked something else. Also, the rugs inside the cabin were filthy and the mattresses upstairs seems like someone very heavy slept in the center for 10 years - nothing like rolling into the middle all night long. Also, the stairs to get into the cabin and the stairs inside are very steep and not up to code. They are narrow, and the handrails have no balusters, so if you have kids, they will fall right through.Other than these concerns, we enjoyed our stay. If you are looking for something remote, this is not the cabin for you. There was a "creek" which was runoff water but it still created a nice ambiance. The overall condition of the cabin was decent but the stairs were extremely steep and narrow and difficult to maneuver. We would have preferred a softer bed and pillows that would allow our heads to sink into them (they were a bit hard to sleep on). I have always been very happy with the cabins that are family has rented in the past and will continue to rent from them in the future. I selected this particular cabin for a work retreat, so I did not have much choice on the location. I was not pleased with the cabin having a road in front of the driveway, you could see and hear cars passing. It was also smaller than I expected, and the hot tub never seemed to cool off, stayed scalding hot. The basement was also unfinished, but had a nice bedroom and bath. I will say that it was adorable and immaculate, cleanest cabin I have ever rented. If you want to go whitewater rafting, great location to get out of the cabin and do things.
