It all seemed a little mysterious to me, but then I visited the property and I have to admit, it became much clearer. This incredible rental property is hidden on 14 acres of magical mountain property. Outside there are woods to explore and places to hike, ponds and streams to reflect by, and even a labyrinth that provides the perfect maze for contemplation and meditation. Extensive decking connects the house to nature in an almost mystical way that brings the outdoors to you. This cozy house offers an open floor plan with a generous kitchen, ample dining area and comfortable living room that features a large stone fireplace. House is well maintained, clean and a treasure for those seeking a romantic escape or perhaps a memorable time with family. The owners have added several nice touches to make your stay even more enjoyable. Our only regret is that we only had 4 days and could not stay longer. Had a blast A guest from Arlington, VA recommends this property. Stayed for 3 days in March, 2013 We had an awesome time at Berkana. House was clean, hot tub was fantastic, super close to Timberline and Whitegrass. The perfect weekend getaway. My only complaint is that we were confused about the extra cottage. Our contract said we had 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths, but we only had the main house which was 2 BR and 2 baths. Not a big deal since it was just 2 couples, but the property management co should have been more clear about what we were getting. Would have been nice to have the wifi password while at the property. It was a great time. Absolutely Wonderful Except for Hurricane Sandy Kimberly E. from York, PA recommends this property. Stayed for 7 days in October, 2012 Loved the property! Loved the location! But Hurricane Sandy snowed us in and put out the power for most of our stay. We persevered until the "Calvary" arrived on Bobcats armed with chainsaws. Definitely plan to visit there again ... but when weather is likely to be nicer. Can't say enough about Best of Canaan ... the ladies there are amazing ... I'd give them 10 or 20 stars if I could! Great Secluded Spot, but not the most Romantic Jansen W. from McLean, VA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 2 days in October, 2012 The management company was wonderful and very helpful through the entire process, however, the house wasn't that great. I rented the cabin mainly for the fact that it had a nice hot tub, with a private, secluded view into the woods on a big balcony. However, this hot tub didn't work and I spent about two hours trying to figure it out when we checked in and finally gave up and just called the next day to hear that it doesn't work but we could use the guest house hot tub (which doesn't have as good of a view). The sheets on the master bed were deteriorating, and there were stains on one of the hand towels, and one of the blankets. Overall, my wife and I had a good time, but I think that next time we will be trying out a different house with Best of Caanan. Secluded and peaceful retreat A guest from Lancaster, PA does not recommend this property. Stayed for 7 days in September, 2012 Let me first say that I was not going to write a review but I received several emails asking for my feedback so here it is. As many guests had written in the guestbook Berkana is a very secluded and peaceful place to spend a weekend or a week as we did. We did have 2 cleanliness issues with the property; the first was the finding of and the amount of mouse dropping in the cabinets and drawers of the kitchen, no mouse was seen or heard. The second issue was a mold problem in the laundry room, the smell was so horrible that we went and bought gloves and cleaner to remove the mold and smell. I would question if the management company has a regular inspection process for insuring all their properties are well maintained. When we arrived to check-in we were informed the hot tub was broken and someone was there repairing it, at the end of the week the hot tub still was broken. There is a second hot tub at the guest house that was working that we had access to. If the management company and the owner have addressed the mold problem, cleaned up the mouse droppings and repaired the hot tub Berkana would be a 5 star mountain retreat and place to unwind from all stress.
