The home needs to offer family friendly games. It would be nice to have the option of blinds/curtains for more privacy. I felt very exposed, the kitchen/dinning and living area windows were open entirely without the option of any blinds or shades. The telephone did not work and I did not have cell service. I had to go elsewhere to make reservations for the Golden Anchor. The kitchen was stocked well, the master bed was comfortable. It would be nice to have more information about the local area perhaps a booklet. My husband and I have stayed in Timberline for 12 years, two and three times a year. We know what the area has to offer in the way of homes and pleasure. The Best of Canaan needs to limit their fees, I have stayed in better homes for less money. The staff in booking the property were kind and helpful. I will use my other rental company the price and amenities are much better. In today's society people will choose the best deal for their family and budget. I do not mean any disrespect to any person but I must be honest. The staff is very nice and the towns are so cute and quaint. We went the last week in March which isn't peak season. The best part of that was there literally was no one in town but the locals. Our community was vacant. Which we loved! We wanted peace and quiet and we got it. Downside is places close early or weren't even open at all bc there wasnt enough business. We enjoyed the food, the views, and the parks. Loved the hot tub(the roof was a key factor in the rain). Nice location--woodsy, peaceful but not isolated. Convenient to horseback riding, pond, hiking, tennis, Big John's restaurant. Staff offered good advice re which house to choose. We thought one bathroom upstairs for 3 kids might be a problem, but the half bath at the bottom of the steps helped. Maybe not with ski gear but it's perfect for families who want to come and go without having to drive to the slopes if they don't want to. The house was great. Very clean. Plenty of room and comfortable. A nice gas fireplace for warming up post skiing. Even though we didn't use it, there was a very nice hot tub. Lots of wildlife around, so enjoyable walks with lots of photography opportunities. The one drawback per se would be the TV in the living room. It's rather small and high up over the fireplace, so viewing was not optimal. We were there for skiing, so not that big of an issue but it's definitely not Super Bowl party worthy.The piece de resistance was Donna from Best of Canaan. We booked last minute and this amazingly nice, professional, helpful person went beyond the call of duty to help us pull it off. We will only book through Donna for any subsequent trips to Timberline. Unbelievable customer service skills -- a rarity these days. A true gem. The gas fireplace and hot tub were very nice touches. We especially appreciated having the handy utility room off the front porch for storing ski stuff. The walk to the Winterset ski slope (beginner slope; access behind the ski team building) was a bit long -- probably about a quarter mile. But it gave us more flexibility, and parking in the main lot is a pain on weekends anyway. Everything was very clean and the house was in good shape. Everyone in my group had a fantastic time and we were overall very happy with the rental!The location (in terms of skiing) was good, but not great, as it was a quite a long walk or a short drive to skiing. If I had any small complaints they would be:1-the hot tub was too cold to use for the first day (even though we did appreciate it was cleaned for us) This was somewhat of a letdown not being able to use the hot tub after a long first day of skiing.2-this may not matter to some people but the TV in the family room was only about 24" and was way to high for comfortable viewing. The TV was too small to see if a field goal was good or not watching New Years Day Bowl games! This would be an easy fix for the owner and I would recommend it as a quick upgrade to the house!3-The family room could use another comfy couch!Please do not let these comments dissuade you from booking this property, it is a great house for a family/group and led to a great weekend for my friends and I.Also, the property manager was great and could not recommend renting through this company more!
